The United States has imposed a tentative ceasefire between Israel and Iran, but it has done nothing to end the chaos its own policies have helped create. Decades of Western intervention have plunged the region into a state of near-permanent instability.
The Palestinian struggle remains central to the region’s future. Yet in Gaza, Israel continues its relentless bombardment, while Britain supplies the weapons that make this destruction possible. Here in Scotland, US warplanes refuel on their way to the Middle East—and the Scottish Government does nothing.
At this meeting, we’ll be joined by Lindsey German, convener of the Stop the War Coalition, and David Jamieson, writer and co-editor of Conter.scot, to help us make sense of the current crisis: the shifting geopolitics of the region, the future of Gaza, and the role of American and British imperialism. Together, we’ll ask what the anti-war and Palestine solidarity movements must do now to hold our political leaders—in both Westminster and Holyrood—to account.
